CLICK THE IMAGE TO VIEW GALLERY 87th Annual Great American Balloon Race LIFTOFF: Danville, KY    LANDING: Stuart Powell Airport, Junction City, KY Rules of the Race The race is a hare-n-hound event.  There is no speed as the word "race" implies.  The hare is the lead balloon and it will have a ten minute head start.  The other balloons are the hounds.  They will fly as close as they can to the lead balloon's route.
