PREFACE - Attending the Concours d'Elegance at Keeneland is sort of a thrill ... the anticipation of awe. The annual event features everything from horse drawn carriages to exotic super cars. The sky was overcast on the morning of the show and light to moderate drizzle was falling from the clouds. Early morning arrival offers a photographer the best opportunity to capture images without massive crowds in each shot.
I wandered the grounds for a few minutes before framing my first shot. Several automotive classics were covered with tarps and some collectors hadn't driven their cars into the event area yet ... waiting for the rain to end. Many of the participants that arrived early were busy wiping their vehicles with towels and shammies, trying to keep pace with the rain.
The objective: Adapt to weather conditions and shoot accordingly. Get close. Focus on details. Turn shapes and angles into pleasing compositions.
